Monarch Theater Company is a joyful, low-pressure theater experience for young performers in 1st through 8th grade — a natural complement to Monarch's dance education programming.
No experience needed.
Just imagination.
Through acting, storytelling, and creative play, students discover their voices, build confidence, and have a whole lot of fun along the way.
Classes will hold an informal performance for family and friends on the last day of the session!

Chrysalis I: Characters in Motion
Grades 1–2
Young performers discover how movement tells a story. In this class, dancers learn the basics of musical theater dance while exploring how a character walks, feels, and moves differently from another. Through playful choreography and imaginative movement games, students build the foundation for character work they'll carry into every future stage of performance.
Students will: learn beginner musical theater choreography, explore movement as character expression, build coordination and stage confidence, and perform in a fun, low-pressure showcase for family and friends.
Chrysalis II: Finding Your Voice
Grades 3–4
Building on the character work from Chrysalis I, students now add voice to movement. This class focuses on physical and verbal storytelling using gesture, expression, and spoken word together to bring a story to life. No formal singing instruction here; instead, students develop projection, clarity, and expressive speech alongside continued physical storytelling.
Students will develop physical storytelling and stage presence, practice verbal expression and projection, explore character through both body and voice, and perform a short storytelling piece for family and friends.
Monarch Migration: Ensemble & Improvisation
Grades 5–8
In our most advanced class, students take flight as an ensemble. Building on the character and storytelling skills from Chrysalis I and II, this class focuses on collaborative, improvised performance. Students work together to build scenes, respond in the moment, and tell stories as a group. This class is a culmination of everything learned in the earlier stages, performed as a true ensemble.
Students will practice improvisation and collaborative scene-building, strengthen ensemble teamwork and listening skills, apply movement and voice skills from earlier training, and perform a devised ensemble piece for family and friends.
