We love your support of our small business when you shop in our Butterfly Boutique!

The Butterfly Boutique has a full selection of pink and tan tights in our shop, as well as a selection of leotards, dance shorts, skirts, bun kits, and jewelry! We carry a full range of youth sizes in mary-jane style tap shoes, ballet shoes, and jazz shoes.

Additionally, our Monarch Movement Company tanks and tees meet the dress code for most styles of classes!

Dress Code for Kids' Classes

Part of enjoying dance class and doing our best includes following the discipline of the dance dress code. Just like a team uniform, wearing appropriate dancewear allows students to move efficiently and the teachers to instruct on safe and proper body alignment. Some classes have specific hair instructions, but hair should always be pulled back and away from the face to minimize distractions. Families are encouraged to choose the presented options that best suit their dancer(s).

When in doubt, a leotard and tights meets dress code for every style of dance!

Ballet & Play (Ages 18 months - 3 years)

Dancers may wear any dancewear that isn't distracting to the dancer and brings them joy! Tights are optional, but remember that putting ballet shoes on sweaty feet is much easier with tights! Dancers should wear leather, full sole ballet shoes, traditionally pink for girls and black for boys. Families are encouraged to choose the presented options that best suit their dancer.  We strongly suggest a shoe without a drawstring. Hair should be pulled back away from the face.

PreK-Kindergarten Tap & Twirl

Dancers may wear any dancewear that isn't distracting to the dancer and brings them joy! Tights are strongly preferred, but optional. Remember that putting ballet shoes on sweaty feet is much easier with tights and tap shoes may rub uncomfortably on bare feet. Shoes for ballet are leather, full sole ballet shoes, traditionally in pink for girls and black for boys. We strongly suggest a shoe without a drawstring. Shoes for tap are black, patent leather mary jane tap shoes with a velcro strap for girls and a black lace-up tap shoe for boys. Families are encouraged to choose which of these shoe options best suits their dancer. Hair should be pulled back in a bun, braid, pigtails, or pony.

Hip Hop (All Ages including PreK-K Hips & Hops)

Dancers may wear any dance shorts/leggings with a leotard OR fitted Monarch Movement Company tank or tee (sold in studio). Any clean, comfortable sneaker with non-marking soles will be great for Hip Hop. Hair should be pulled back in a bun, braid, pigtails, or pony.

Ballet

Dancers must wear a leotard with pink tights or tights matching the dancer's skin tone. Skirts are optional. No sweatshirts or baggy coverups. Shoes for ballet are leather or canvas split sole ballet shoes, traditionally in pink for girls and black for boys or the color best matching the skin tone tights. Families are encouraged to choose which of these shoe options best suits their dancer. Please avoid the cardboard bottom "ballet slippers" sold at Walmart and other discount spots. Hair should be pulled back in a tight braid or bun. 3rd grade and older is expected to have their hair in a bun for ballet class.

Tap

Dancers may wear any leotard with tights or dance shorts/leggings OR dance shorts/leggings with a fitted Monarch Movement Company tank or tee (sold in studio). No loose pants! Shoes for Tap & Twirl and 1st-2nd Grade Tap are black, patent leather mary jane tap shoes with a velcro strap for girls and a black lace-up tap shoe for boys. Shoes for 3rd grade and older are black lace up tap shoes that may be worn with or without socks. Please avoid split sole tap shoes or "jazz-taps." Hair should be pulled back in a bun, braid, pigtails, or pony.

Jazz and Musical Theater

Dancers may wear any leotard with tights, dance shorts, or leggings. Alternatively dance shorts or leggings may be worn with a fitted Monarch Movement Company tank or tee (sold in studio). Emphasis on fitted so we may see the dancer's alignment! Shoes for jazz and musical theater are tan jazz booties without ties. Hair should be pulled back in a bun, braid, pigtails, or pony.

Lyrical, Contemporary, and Modern

Dancers may wear any leotard with tights, dance shorts, or leggings. Alternatively dance shorts or leggings may be worn with a fitted Monarch Movement Company tank or tee (sold in studio). Emphasis on fitted so we may see the dancer's alignment. Tights must be footless or convertible so that feet are exposed! Dancers in modern class should be sure to have a long sleeved shirt with them at every class. Knee pads are optional for modern. Shoes for lyrical are foot undeez that best match the dancer's skin tone. Contemporary and modern dancers will practice in bare feet. Hair should be pulled back in a bun, braid, pigtails, or pony.
